The short-stem shoulder replacement is a newer, bone preserving stem, used in anatomic and reverse shoulder replacements. Studies have been performed, showing lower rates of fracture if a fall were to occur after surgery, as well as easier revision surgery, if necessary. It may also has better wear characteristics around the bone, meaning there are less changes to your native bone with this replacement. Additionally, this stem is convertible between anatomic and reverse shoulder replacement. Dr. Kilian trained with one of the designers of this implant system.
